Drayton Park - Daily Life
School begins at 9.00am. The bell rings at 8.55 and children line up in the playground
to wait for their teachers and go to their classrooms. We take attendance and punctuality very
seriously and expect our parents/carers to do the same.
Please make sure your child gets to school on time. If they are late it disrupts everyone else.
Latecomers are often embarrassed and find it difficult to settle down. They also miss out on important
information and teaching time.
We ask parents to encourage their children to realise how important regular attendance is.
Healthy children must come to school. It is not acceptable for children to miss school
through days out shopping, visiting relations, going to the airport or even extra half days taken after
as doctors or dentist appointment. This is called unauthorised absence. If your child is not in school we
are unable to teach them and they will not do as well as they could. Children who attend primary school
well have been proved to be more successful at secondary school.
If your child is away you must let us know the reason, either by phone or with a note, immediately.
One of our Learning Mentors follows up absences, and regular lateness, every Friday. If children
are persistently away from school with unauthorised absences they will be referred to our Education Welfare
Officer.
We strongly urge you not to book up family holidays during term time as these disrupt your child's education.
We never give permission for children to be absent during KS1 and KS2 SATs weeks. In the case
of long term absence overseas places can only be kept open for four weeks and we must be given a return date.
