Emergencies

It is vital that we have an up-to-date daytime phone number for you. If this number changes please make sure that you give the school office your new one as a matter of urgency.

Health

You must tell the school if your child has any long-term medical condition or serious allergy.

The school nurse visits us regularly and you can talk to her about any worries you may have. She checks the children’s eyesight and hearing; parents are invited to attend. A medical record is kept on each child, and this will go with them from school to school. All medical matters are completely confidential.

We will let you know when the school dentist is coming to check the children’s teeth. You will be informed if any treatment is needed.

If your child is ill enough to miss school, please let the office know on the first day of their absence. It is particularly important to tell us if they have something which is infectious. The answer machine is always on out of school hours, so you can leave a message before school starts. When your child returns to school please write a letter to the class teacher giving details of their illness. It is not enough to write ‘sick’ or ‘ill’.

Please let us know if your child has a hospital or a dental appointment. If it is only for a short time you must bring them in to school either before or afterwards so that they miss as little school time as possible.

Allergies and medicines

You must let us know if your child has any serious food allergies (eg to nuts) or special dietary requirements (eg lactose intolerance). You must let the headteacher know if your child has been prescribed an Epipen. Please note we not able to give proprietary brands from the chemist; we are only able to administer prescribed medicines (eg antibiotics). These should be clearly marked and left in the office with full instructions. Asthma inhalers are kept by the children in their classrooms. They must be clearly marked with the child’s name. In the Nursery, staff look after any medicine the children need.

Head lice (or nits)

Head lice are common in all primary schools. We rely on parents to check their children’s hair regularly  for head lice and their eggs (nits). The most effective treatment is regular combing with conditioner and a fine-toothed comb which you can buy from any chemists.

If you do find nits or lice in your child’s hair please let the office or your child’s teacher know as quickly as possible. Then we can ask the parents of other children in your child’s class to check and, if necessary, treat their children’s hair. In this way we can prevent lice spreading.

Jewellery

Jewellery should not be worn to school.  Children with pierced ears can only wear studs.
