Governors > About the Governors
|
The governing body is made up of people representing different parts of the school community. Ours is made up of four staff members including the headteacher, six parent governors who are elected by other parents, four co-opted governors who represent the breadth and knowledge of our local community and four people appointed by Islington Council. All governors are appointed for a four-year term. The Government expects a school’s governing body to: provide strategic leadership; act as a critical friend; hold the school to account for standards and achievements, and add to the quality of education. Ours has three sub committees: Curriculum and Achievement, Resources and Premises. We have a system of link governors where each governor covers either a specific subject or a wider area, to allow them to build up a deeper understanding.
The governing body meets at least four times each year. Governors’ meetings are open to parents. Occasionally confidential items are timetabled at the end of the meeting after observers have left. Minutes of all meetings are available from the office.
